La Robada / The Kidnapping

Oil on canvas - 24 x 32 in.

A woman is being abducted by three men, while members of the family and community are worried and upset. In front of the people there is a small bundle of clothing, sandals, a bundled backstrap loom, and a child-sized shirt. This may indicate a form of elopement, in a case when the families do not approve of the marriage. One woman, possibly the grandmother, holds a stick which might be used to beat the couple for transgressing the community's norms.
