Años 80s Genocidio / Genocide of the 1980s

Watercolors on paper - 24 x 18 in.

Artist's Statement:

Currently the idea of genocide is much discussed in the media. Those who favor the military--and the soldiers themselves--do not recognize that genocide took place. Those against--the human rights groups--say that yes, there was genocide. Each group is pushing different concepts of genocide.

Now, I have an opinion that whether or not it was genocide, what is certain is that there was the death of many people, among them men, women, children, and old people. Whether or not this was genocide, there was killing.

In this painting there appears a Chinook war helicopter, an American military transport, and the flag that identifies it. Yes--there was much American responsibility for the war.
